Robert Lightwood is the husband of Maryse Lightwood and the father to three children: Alec, Isabelle, Max, and is the adoptive father of Jace. Once a member of Valentine's Circle, he, along with his wife, now runs the New York Institute.
In City of Lost Souls, we find out he might become Inquisitor. However, in the epilogue of the book, Isabelle tells Clary that her dad is back, for good. It is also revealed, by Jocelyn Fray, that Robert's mistress was a woman by the name of Annamarie Highsmith.
Alec then tells Isabelle, Simon and Magnus that while his mother has accepted the fact that he is gay, Robert has not.
