Henry Branwell is the husband of Charlotte Branwell and a scientist of sorts. He has a laboratory in the crypt below the London Institute.
Henry was born to a man named Buford Branwell. He had been in love with Charlotte Fairchild his entire life, but assumed that she didn't love him. One day, he approached Granville Fairchild and asked permission to marry Charlotte. He assumed that the only reason that Charlotte agreed was because she needed to be married to be allowed to run an Institute. He never dreamed that she would love him.
Henry is somewhat absentminded and fascinated by anything mechanical. His inventions include the Sensor, meant to detect demon energies, and the Phosphor, which is meant to be an amplified witchlight but which actually does a variety of other things, rather unpredictably. In Clockwork Angel, he uses his talent with mechanics to try and figure out the clockwork people.
In Clockwork Princess, he invented the Portals with Magnus's help, and invents the Sensor. He is attacked by an Automaton and almost dies, but is later saved by Magnus's magic. He was, however, left crippled and unable to walk anymore.
He and Charlotte have a son named Charles Fairchild, because Charlotte was the Consul, his last name should be Fairchild.
