|Alexei de Quincey|
|Full name:||Alexie de Quincey|
|Appears in:||Clockwork Angel|
Alexei de Quincey was the head of the London vampire clan.
De Quincey had been the head of the vampire clan in London for a long time. During this time, he became close and seemingly infatuated with Camille Belcourt, who happened to have a lover who was, unfortunately, a werewolf. Since it was forbidden for their kind to love their mortal rivals, they had been seeing each other secretly but were eventually found out by de Quincey. For this, de Quincey murdered him, thinking of it as a favor for his long time friend.
In the 1870s, de Quincey was believed to be the leader of the Pandemonium Club. In reality, he had merely become disobedient of the real Magister, wanting to be the one with the prestigious title, so the Magister saw fit to punish him by using him as the fake Magister during the first phase of his plans.
The Infernal DevicesEdit
Lady Camille Belcourt reports to the Clave that Alexei kills mundanes at his parties, therefore breaking the Law. It is revealed that the reason Camille has revealed this information is so she can have revenge on de Quincey for killing his werewolf lover.
William Herondale and Tessa Gray, disguised as Camille, attend his party, with Magnus Bane. de Quincey greets Tessa cordially and asks if he can have a taste of her human subjagate, Will. Tessa politely declines, asking if she can keep him fresh and new. de Quincey is angered by this, but continues to be pleasent towards her.
de Quincey invites Tessa, Will and Magnus to the special event of the evening, where the vampires mock the Accords and break Clave law by draining a human's blood and therefore killing them. However, Tessa gives a shocked cry when the human about to have his blood drained is Tessa's brother, Nate, but this also alerts the other vampires. Will tries to signal to the waiting Shadowhunters using one of Henry's inventions, the Phosphor (a witchlight signal), but it sets the curtains on fire instead.
A fight begins between the vampires, many of whom flee, and the Shadowhunters. de Quincey ambushed Tessa who is trying to free her brother, accusing her (as Camille) of betraying her kind, and says he will never forget this. Will fights him, and de Quincey flees through a window after Will misses his heart.
After Nate has recovered, Nathaniel Gray blames de Quincey for taking him prisoner, and fabricates a story about him being the Magister. However it is revealed that de Quincey is a scapegoat and Axel Mortmain is the Magister.
Mortmain arrives at the London Institute informing Charlotte Branwell that de Quincey is plotting to fight the Shadowhunters in one of his London townhouses with hundreds of other vampires. Charlotte, Henry and all the other adult Shadowhunters rush off to the house, that Mortmain suggests. They arrive, only to find him with twenty other vampires, hiding. They accuse him of being the Magister but he laughs at that accusations. Before he can explain, Benedict Lightwood stabs him with a seraph blade, killing him.
Alexei has been shown to harbor romantic intentions toward Camille. Magnus also suggests that de Quincey would like to be "more than friends" with him, as well.
- His name is a possible reference to the write Thomas de Quincey, who has been quoted by Cassandra Clare a few times in the Infernal Devices.
